Diving Safety

Proactive Diving Safety Procedures

Before any new project or dive site is commenced and whenever there is a significant operational change, our team undertakes a full unconscious diver recovery drill. This critical exercise is embedded into our safety culture. It also forms an essential part of project mobilisation for all commercial diving projects in the UK and offshore environments. Our dedication to rigorous diving safety throughout every project ensures operational excellence.

By rehearsing real-life emergency scenarios, every member of the dive team gains a clear understanding of their responsibilities, ensuring a rapid, coordinated, and effective response. This preparation is important in the unlikely event of an incident during inshore and offshore diving operations. Similarly, proactive procedures elevate the overall safety measures. They prioritize diving safety at every stage.

In full compliance with IMCA guidelines and industry regulations, DWI ensures that every dive site is equipped with a minimum of two independent means of diver recovery systems. This redundancy provides an additional layer of protection. It safeguards diver welfare in all marine and subsea working conditions. Furthermore, it contributes to robust diving safety standards.

Advanced Diving Medical Support

DWI maintains two fully equipped DMAC (Diver Medical Advisory Committee) first aid kits, ensuring that industry-approved diving medical equipment is always available on site. This is essential to manage diver-related incidents, decompression illness, and underwater emergencies. At the same time, it fulfills our commitment to best-practice protocols.

All inshore dive teams include a minimum of two personnel trained in first aid. Wherever possible, we enhance this capability by ensuring at least one team member is a qualified Diving Medical Technician (DMT). This provides specialist diver medical support and consistently upholds high diving safety standards on every job.

For offshore diving operations, safety standards are further elevated with a minimum of two DMTs present on site. These highly trained diver medics are equipped to provide advanced medical care in remote and challenging environments. In addition to their operational responsibilities, DMTs actively support ongoing safety training. They deliver drills and knowledge-sharing sessions during weather downtime or operational pauses. This holistic approach strengthens workplace diving safety for both offshore and inshore teams.

24/7 Diving Doctor Support

During all projects, DWI provides continuous access to a qualified diving doctor, available 24 hours a day. This service aligns with IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association) regulations and ensures that our DMTs receive expert medical guidance at all times during critical offshore diving work and nearshore operations. Therefore, this system reinforces the importance of diving safety and medical readiness.

This level of support enables on-site medics to administer DMAC-approved prescription medications and, where necessary, carry out life-saving interventions in demanding offshore environments—with the full backing of specialist medical expertise and professional diving health support systems. As a result, superior diving safety is maintained for every project and team member.
